Hi Everyone,
My name is Martha Tucker, and I'm the author of The Mayor's Wife wore Sapphires, a romantic urban mystery/thriller. I was a mayor's wife for 12 years, a councilman's wife before that, a school board member's wife before that. I saw too many black kids being led to the video gneration we have today. Those music videos became the dream rather than a good education and a place in the business world, the entrepreneur world. I want to stop that mess, cut it off at the roots. I want to stop it now.
Let me introduce you to my main character, Indigo Tate. They say she's a replica of me. I'm not at all sure about that. But I know she knows how to keep people safe in the city. I know she knows how to keep 13 year old Black girls from reading all the porn that's on the market today. I know she won't be afraid to call on all of you writers out there who have written great stuff that's not just plain nasty. Stuff that's heating young girls up to go on the prowl for something that can ruin their lives.
If you can help this movement with fast-paced, intriguing writing that will make young girls and boys aim for the stars instead of the alley, then holler back at me.
The first thing Indigo Tate teaches is how to think for yourself. Then genuinely get to know the people. If you act like you're afraid of your surroundings, you'll never survive.
